Teachers trounce students in annual Student-teacher basketball game

On November 8, the epic battle that is ‘students vs. teachers’ showcased sportsmanship and skill on the court. Put together by North Harford’s very own journalism staffs, the annual student teacher basketball game claimed its new winner.
Staff member of The Niche, Shiloh McCurry and Cry of the Hawk reporter, Josh Stoecker introduced the 11 teachers and 17 students and announced the entire game.
With many reoccurring team members, the teacher’s team also gained a few new faces such as Mr. Josh ‘Can’t Stop Me’ Korbeck. Scoring multiple points, Korbeck was definitely a positive addition to the team.
In addition to Korbeck, Mr. Mark Foul Shot Filliaggi and Craig, The Deputy, Thompson also brought their skills to the court.
“It was overall a really good game. It was really fun and DT helped our team a lot. He is like seven feet tall so he didn’t even need to jump,” said Filliaggi.
However there were many veteran team members who have played the game since it began including Mrs. Jen ‘Cut ‘Em Up’ Chandler and Mrs. Laura ‘Alley-Oop’ O’Leary.
The game started off on a rough foot for the students. With a 10 point lead by the teachers in the first minutes of the first quarter, it seemed as if it was going to be a long night. By the end of the first half it still wasn’t looking good for the students. With a halftime score of 34-26, teachers, the students in the stands were still hopeful that their peers would make a comeback.
Halftime featured the elite precision jump rope team, the Hoppin Hawks Jump Rope Club. This halftime show was not something to be missed.
The Hoppin Hawks performed many insane tricks such as jumping with multiple ropes and even doing pushups between the ropes. For their grand finale, every member of the club turned a rope while one boy, a freshman at Harford Tech, jumped in between all of them while doing pushups without a single mess up.
“The jump ropers were so good. I was really impressed by them and all their tricks and I hope they come back next year,” said sophomore Maria Auth.
After the Hoppin Hawks’ finale the game continued. Although the students tried their hardest, it didn’t end up well for the team.
“The students really tried hard and all the players were really good,” said senior Megan Jones.
But with many great rebounds and fast breaks the students made a slow comeback thanks to seniors Jordan Smith and Collin Keating, who both had multiple fast breaks throughout the entire game.
Along with all the boys on the team came senior Ave Ramsey and freshman Erin Drumm. They held their own and didn’t let anybody stop them. The two of them formed an alliance on the court which eventually ended up with a few points for the students team.
Another impressive three-pointer was shot by senior Mark Keller. But sadly those three points were not enough to save the students. With an undecided final score the students lost in a close match. According to Hopefully in the future the students will make a dramatic comeback in the epic battle that is, students vs. teachers.
