Devoting time, money to strangers; Boredom or differing opinions

KIMBERLY EDGAR, Reporter

Oh boy, Harry Styles released a new single, time to flock to social media and post about how hot he is and how good his music is. Or maybe a new scandal has been released about an influencer on TikTok. I should probably text my “besties” about how shocked I am that someone could do whatever it is that was done.

I guess it is nice to have someone to idolize or talk about but it is a waste of time. Every scandal that is publicized is most likely a publicity stunt for more viewers. Nothing any celebrity or influencer says can be trusted because it could all be a lie. Yes, let’s idolize this random guy because he looks nice, sings okay, and presents as someone that supports all of the right things. But genuinely, how do you know?

Every influencer’s life is analyzed and exposed in any way possible online for everyone to see. Tabloids twist the truth and most celebrities don’t even run their own accounts anymore. There is no guarantee that what they say they believe in is true. People will love someone famous until a tabloid releases a piece about how they did this terrible thing when the tabloid or article could be completely fictitious or taken the wrong way. If admirers can switch sides so easily or scratch and claw anyone who no longer supports them, what are you gaining?

Liking someone’s music and being obsessed with them are two very different things. Some people would spend thousands of dollars on merch or tickets to see this famous person.

News Flash: They won’t even remember you in five minutes.

One admirer is so insignificant and you are wasting your time AND money on someone that will never remember you. It hurts when someone you love rejects you or doesn’t acknowledge your existence. So why do people insist on idolizing celebrities? Maybe it is boredom or maybe it is uncontrollable, a bad habit you can’t break.

It is one of those things that is hard to understand if you don’t relate and I fall into that category. I love music but I very rarely pay attention to who sings what and sometimes I get ridiculed because I listen to someone who doesn’t support this or has done something bad.

Agreeing to disagree is a concept that seems to fly right over people’s heads. If you can devote so much time and energy into Harry Styles or Tom Holland, I should also be able to listen to any music I like without giving a care in the world whether they are “bad” or not.

     You don’t have to understand.

You don’t have to believe I’m right.

Let’s just agree to disagree for once.
