The varsity field hockey team was on an impressive winning streak for much of the season after facing  challenging teams like Hereford, Maryvale, Fallston and more.

The girls started out this season with a home game against John Carroll with a score of 3-0, which really set the tone for the rest of the tough season.

Many games this season have been won by the Hawks in overtime. Ava Schmidt, forward scored the lone game winning goal against Fallston in double overtime. In the Bel Air game, it was yet another overtime win, 2-1.

In a nail biter against Hereford, the girls pulled out the win in overtime after a regulation game score was tied 0-0.  At the Dulaney game, another tough team, Kelsie Collier scored the one goal earning the Hawks a 1-0 win.

Defender Sam Crone said, “The team really pulls together when the ball is down by our goal because we all have the same goal, which is to keep the ball out of the goal and that’s when we work our hardest and best as a team.”

Despite several overtime wins and close games, the team maintained their undefeated status until they played CMW at home last week,  where the Mustangs hopped out early with a score of 2-0.  Not discouraged, the Hawks held the Mustangs to two goals and were able to net one for themselves late in the game.  At the end of regulation time, the score was 2-1 in favor of  CMW.

Despite the loss captain Anna Racine said,“We work so well together because we pass so well and the whole team is so motivational.”

Head coach Carla Harward said “the team played their best and hardest and I couldn’t ask for anything more in a team.  They gave it everything they [had] in that game.”
