Senior Ryan Tracy and junior Owen Smith recently broke school records during this past lacrosse season. Tracy broke the record for single season saves, and Smith broke the records of goals per season, average goals per game, and goals in a game.

Tracy states that he “had a total of 225 saves and the record was 184.”

“When lacrosse was not in season, I was training with my personal trainer, Scott, along with playing club ball in the summer[…],” Tracy says.

Head lacrosse coach, Richard Tabeling states “Ryan has improved exponentially in his high school career. His investment in offseason work and his in season drive to be the best is what has gotten him to be a first and second Team All County.”

“A long term goal that I achieved during the season was that I wanted to set/break a record for something, and I wanted to leave a name behind that younger guys will shoot for,” Tracy comments.

“Ryan sets an example for the young guys, he plays hard, works on his weaknesses and is also ready to play regardless of what is in front of him, […] and has been one of the key components of [the teams] close defense” Tabeling comments.

Tracy says, “[…] other goalies [should] be confident in yourself, be the leader/quarterback of the defense, any opportunity or chance you get to play, take it, and lastly have fun every second [while] playing the game.”

Tabeling says, “Ryan has set the standard as a captain and player at North Harford Lacrosse, he is a shining example of “No handouts” and” everything is earned!!”

“Owen has been a captain and [the teams] offensive leader for the past two years, leading the team in goals in the 2021 and 2022 seasons,” Tabeling states

Smith says that the goals per season record “used to be 47, and then this year [he] got 69, and [in his sophomore] year [he] tied [that number].” To be the goals in a game record he “scored nine goals in one game, and the record for that was eight [goals in one game], Smith says.

Smith comments that he is able to accomplish these goals while playing by “having good teammates and having a good defense because the [offense] can get the ball down to the offensive end more.”

“I believe our offense was weak, and our ball movement was really slow, but as [the team] grew together, we got better and [had] better chemistry, and then [the players] could move the ball better,” Smith adds.

“Owen has improved over the last three years due to hard work on his own (bucket of balls and putting in reps. Also, he has played a lot of lacrosse in the off-season, which really improved his field IQ and ability to score. Owen ended this season as first Team All County and second Team in 2021,” Tabeling comments.

Smith says that all players should “play confident and do not doubt yourself.” Tabeling adds “Owen will continue to grow and lead his team in 2023. I expect Owen to once again be a leader on the field and get the young players to rise up to his level of play.”
