Sophomore Reece Hinkle has been skating for about 12 year, and she competes in ice skating competitions. She started by having her mom take her, and Hinkle says she “would always love doing it.”

She says that a typical competition preparation session includes a warm up and practicing the program off the ice, and listening to the music.  “I practice at Ice World and The Rust Arena and Gold Arena that is at the University of Delaware,” says Hinkle. The last competition she said she was in was “Easterns, which was in Boston,” says the skater.

Her team ended up in 6th place, and she added that usually based on where you live, that depends on how good the teams you compete against will be. “Our coast is probably the best out of them all,” states Hinkle

Hinkle says that the judges score based on certain criteria that are for points. These include different moves, intersection, wheel, creative element, no-hold, block, and more.

Hinkle adds when you join a team “there are certain requirements; you have to be on the level of the team when you join, beginner, preliminary, open juvenile, juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior, senior, elite 12 , college, masters, adult. There are some other teams most levels have open which can be any age.”
