Hawks compete against Fallston at Ravens game Quarterback Challenge

bal-north-harfords-hammer-wins-ravens-qb-chall-001     At the Raven’s home game Sunday,  September 15, the North Harford Hawks were represented by three seniors on the football team. Competing in the Quarterback Challenge, Nic Hammer, Richie Greene and Ryan Feiss beat the representatives of Fallston High.

The QB challenge, held at every Ravens home game is a competition between high school quarterbacks to see who can throw the longest pass.  Hammer threw a  53-yard completion to Feiss and a 50-yard completion to Greene.

Fallston’s quarterback representative, junior Brendan Weinhold , completed a 46 yard pass to his teammate, Ross Mitchell.

The winning quarterback of every challenge receives a $250 College Savings Plan of Maryland account and both quarterbacks receive an official football autographed by a Raven’s player. The winning school’s athletic department is awarded a $500 Under Armour gift card.

“I got the $500 Under Armour gift card but I’m using it for the team so everybody will get something.” said Nic Hammer.

Coach of the JV football team, Justin Martinek also tagged along for the game.

“We got to take a tour of the stadium and we met Jim Caldwell, the Raven’s offensive coordinator, and we met one of the receivers.” said Martinek.

The quarterback challenge is not the same every week. Sometimes instead of testing arm strength by seeing who can throw the longest pass, it is a competition that evaluates accuracy where quarterbacks attempt to throw the football into nets.

This competition is one of the many ways that the Baltimore Ravens show their support for youth football in Maryland.

Although North Harford defeated Fallston this time, the regular season game against the Cougars is November 1, at Fallston.

“Its always nice to beat fallston but I took it as a friendly competition.” said Hammer.
