Filly Football

Fall is the start of many of North Harford traditions, including Filly Football. Every year the junior and senior girls battle it out on the turf, while the junior and senior boys cheer for them on the side lines.
This year’s football game has some even more exciting aspects, including a field goal competition and the marching band is performing a halftime show.
Seniors who played as juniors last year enjoyed every part of Filly Football. Senior Natalie Jacobs says the most fun part was getting to play a sport with all her friends especially those who she never got to play sports with in the past. When asked what her team’s secret weapons were, she said “all of the plays” that they made she will add that their teamwork was another attributing factor.
Another senior Brooke Ciampaglio says that she is really excited to play all of her junior friends this year. She also hopes there are a ton of boys cheerleading because she thinks it adds such a humorous element to the game.
The juniors also are pretty excited for the face off as well. Junior Ava Schmidt says she can’t wait to take on football with some of her friends. Schmidt plays field hockey now with a lot of the girls she will be playing football with, and she thinks the communication skills developed with her field hockey team will transfer onto the football field and result in some great team work. Junior Kelsey Collier says that she is excited to take on the seniors and win the game. Junior Hannah Smith agrees with Collier and says that she is ready for her grade to come together and attempt to take down the seniors. Smith says she is planning on protecting the quarterback during the game, but she doesn’t want to give out too many details about the junior’s game plan yet.
The fun doesn’t end with the junior and senior feud, the boy cheerleaders are where the real fun begins. This year, Will Eakes plans to lead some cheers and “learn the art of being a cheerleader.” He says he can’t wait to root for his fellow senior class onto a victory.
This event is sure to be filled with some great laughs and great memories, so everyone should come out and see the game on November 12 at 6:00 p.m and tickets are $5 at the gate.
