World altered by time; How things change over time

Grace Herron
Herron and her sisters grew up “very close,” to each other. Herron is glad to have her family to help her, “deal with change.”

There are many aspects in a person’s life that they have the power to influence except for time. The seconds that turn into minutes, constantly ticking by wait for no one. What can be mastered is the ability to move with time and to use it as a tool for change.

“Everything is bound to change. Time and the hardships that life brings us can force us into uncomfortable situations where we have to alter things about ourselves to adapt. While we may revert to old mindsets and trends, nothing will ever be the same. But that’s a healthy thing!” This is how a Junior at NH, Grace Herron, feels about things that change over time.

Herron confessed that changes stress her out and “might take away the things,” that make her happy. She sees “the great thing about change, however, is it brings more things into our lives that we have never experienced! Change is a double-edged sword; it can bring you much pain and blessings.”

A change that acted as a double-edged sword for Herron was her, “older sister moving to Ireland.” Along with her sister being her “best friend,” she did not know, “before the pandemic that she would be gone for almost 2 years.” Despite “missing her terribly,” Herron knows her sister is, “focused on her new career and degree. These changes made her happy and ultimately, made […] [Herron] happy.”

What the junior is glad changes over time is, “pain. As you grow you find better ways to deal with problems and things hurt you less. Something she wished stayed the same throughout life is, “the positivity we had as children.”

A major improvement Herron has seen with time is, “the ability to accept one another. We as a society are outspoken and supportive about mental illness and disabilities. Our world is much more positive towards those experiencing these difficulties.”

Herron believes, “in recent months, our culture has been resorting back to early 2000s trends for TV shows and music. Television shows in black and white, like “WandaVision”, are becoming popular.” On the other hand, for cars, “self-driving and hovering vehicles are currently in development. While our trends are reverting, our technology keeps moving to the future.”

In her personal life, the biggest difference in her “environment” is that Herron’s, “sisters have moved away and grown-up. Things shifted so drastically, and it is scary.” But Herron could not ask for more security than knowing they are still in her life.

Dealing with change over time can cause a lot of stress and anxiety but according to Herron, “there are healthy ways to cope with this.” She believes in, “talking out your changes to a professional or family. Finding new ways to cope and understand change is an important skill to get through the pain that could follow.”
