College fair is the way

It’s that time of the year, applications are due, decisions are being made, and the college fair is coming to town.

The HCPS College and Career Fair took place on October 16, 2013, at the Harford Community College APGFCU Arena.

More than 120 colleges and universities were present with representatives who will be speaking with students and parents. The representatives will be giving information about their college, trade school, business school, or university, and present the criteria for what is needed to apply to the school.

“Going last year to the college fair, really helped me weed out the colleges that were not right for me,” said Emily Slaby, senior. “The representatives were really helpful in helping me find the college that fit me for my career and a college that would truly benefit me.”

“The college fair last year really showed me where I would want to go for college,” said Zandro Caldron, senior at Math and Science Academy. “The brochures and talking with the representatives enlightened me on what I had to do as far as applications and what I had to do to be accepted.”

Also a Student-Athlete Eligibility Seminar was helld from 6:00pm until 7:00pm. The seminar will be represented by the NCAA and the NJCAA.

The financial aid presentation also given during the evening was attended by parents and students seeking information about how to pay for college.

Some of the aolleges and universities represented at this year’s College and Career Fair are Millersville University, Washington College, Virginia Tech, University of Maryland Baltimore County, and Stevenson University.

Also there will be career vendors, such as, agriculture, educators, writer/ journalism, and fire sciences.
“I remember going to the college fair when I was in high school,” said Andrew Durham, police officer. “It really helped me figure out what I wanted to do with life and how to accomplish that goal.”
