In memory: Donald Ockerman

On October 18, at the Mandrin Hospice House in Harwood, Maryland, at age 67, beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and teacher, Mr. Donald M. Ockerman passed away.

Ockerman was a technical education teacher at North Harford Middle School for 38 years. He was also involved in the lacrosse program.

“He was one of the most kid-centered teachers I have ever met and one of the most fun co-workers I have ever had the pleasure of working with,” said co-worker Charles Selfe.

Ockerman was an Air Force veteran serving from 1965-1970, and was a member of the American Legion Post #182, Scholarship Fund.

“Mr. Ockerman was a person who brought joy to everyone with his witty sense of humor; he was just a wonderful and enjoyable person to be around,” said co-worker, Tim Dougherty.

Born November 10, 1945, in Buffalo, New York, Ockerman enjoyed watching football and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, October 22, at the American Legion Post #182. A facebook page was also created in memory of Ockerman by his family called The Ocky Blog.

“I have known Donald for a long time and he was just an all around great person who lived his life to inspire others, and he will be dearly missed,” stated fellow teacher and long-time friend, Tom Berg.
