Welcome Mr. Orth

Among all the new teachers and staff is David Orth. This year he teaches English I, III, IV and SAT Prep.  Orth graduated from Temple University in 2009 with degrees in English and Education.

“I remember teachers I had that were caring in school and how much it mattered to me. I would work harder, participate, and generally “be good” if it felt like a teacher cared about his or her students. I think that is the foundation to being a successful teacher,” said Orth.

Orth enjoys North Harford’s atmosphere which reminds him of his own high school. He also appreciates the Hawks’ school spirit and teacher relationships.

“I really like how sarcastic he is,” said junior Christopher Hare who has Orth for English and SAT Prep.

Most students would be surprised to learn that Orth and his wife are expecting their first child, a baby boy, in October. Also, he has sporadically walked from Georgia to Maine, which is about 1,800 miles.

Orth finds the most challenging part of his job is often breaking down material for students and helping them apply it to real life and connecting it to other subjects.

“Helping students see things from a different perspective and seeing the excitement when they grasp a new or difficult task is my favorite aspect of teaching,” said Orth.
