Brown prepares students for long haul

Mrs. Beth Brown graduated Alfred University with her bachelors in chemistry in 2006, then continued to earn her masters degree in chemistry in 2010 from Montana State University.
She previously taught at Edgewood High, but applied here at North Harford because she lives right down the street and wanted to become involved in the community. This year, she will be teaching AP Physics, AP Calculus-based Physics, and chemistry.
“I am really hard on my students, but I’ve had quite a few come back to me saying that the rigor of my courses really prepared them for the work load in college,” said Brown.
Brown spends most of her time with her eight-month-old and her two dogs when she isn’t grading papers or preparing lesson plans.
“Keeping up with grading is always a challenge, but the most rewarding part of planning my lessons is when students find my lessons fun,” says Brown.
But as much as Brown cares about her lessons being fun, her greatest focus is the quality of the learning experience for her students.
“I hope that by the end of the year, students will describe me as a good student,” says Brown. “I don’t care if they like me, I just want them to learn the material that I am teaching them.”
So far, Brown enjoys her AP Physics C class the most, she has been very impressed with their math backgrounds and their “wonderful personalities”.
“I just wish that more students would stay after with me to work out the things that they don’t understand,” says Brown. “At Edgewood, my room was always full after school, but so far, not many have come to visit me after school hours.”
