Dunham takes on Best Buddies leadership conference

Senior and secretary of the Best Buddies club Mercy Dunham participated in the annual Best Buddies Leadership Conference in Indiana. After boarding a plane and staying in a college dorm for three nights, Dunham returned with new ideas to contribute to the club and new stories to tell.

What type of skills did you learn there?
“I learned a lot about how to improve our schools’ “chapter” and they gave out tips on how I can get more people to join our club at school.”
What workshops and activities did they have for you?
“We did this thing called a world cafe, where you eat foods from all around the world. I met some people from Hong Kong and it was nice to get ideas and perspective from people.”

Did you meet anybody interesting or worth being friends with after ? If yes, then who?
“I actually met a lot of people from Maryland and they were all super nice and I met a lot of other cool people. I also met my “twin” she looked exactly like me and we even had the same necklace.”

How long was it? Would you like to do it again?
“ It was so much fun I would definitely do it again. I went Friday through Monday and we had to stay in these dorms. They weren’t the best, but the experience was. We stayed at Indiana University and I got there by plane.”

What is your favorite memory?
“My favorite part was the opening and closing ceremonies. It was like a party and every state or country would say cheers. I loved Maryland’s. We all got to hear stones from some buddies and hear speeches from buddy ambassadors. Although the food stunk, it was extremely mediocre. The worst food I had while I was there was the scrambled eggs.”
