Students prepare for AP exams

AP testing is just around the corner, and with all of the snow days in Harford County over this last winter, students are getting anxious about testing.

“There has been  a lot of lost time, because of the snow days, but I made the most of it  by studying on the lost days and reviewing what I need to know,” said junior Mallory Boyd.

There are a total of 370 AP tests available to take and a number of AP classes available for students at North Harford. Students who pass the specific tests have the chance for colleges to accept credits earned by the students, a main reason as to why students enroll in these AP classes in the first place. AP classes also provide other benefits to high school students.

“ I like to take the AP courses since they inflate my GPA and they look good on college transcripts, but they also challenge me,” said junior Scarlett Dare.

Teachers have been preparing their students for their designated AP test since the beginning of the year. In order to have better preparation for the tese, many teachers and students have purchased the Barron’s and Princeton review AP Study Books. Teachers are also using practise exams to give their students a taste of what the actual test will be like.

But not all students are advised to enroll in an AP test. Each year, there are students debating whether to sign up for the test, given that it is not required. But certain teachers agree that students should not take the test if they are not ready, or depending on their grades in the course.

Students this year may have noticed that there was a different way to sign up for the AP test; registration can now be completed online.

“We began to do the registration online in order to streamline it, make it more accurate, and it gives students more time to register,” says testing coordinator Christy Renzulli. Aberdeen High School joined North Harford in completing their AP registration online.                                                       “Completing the registration online was so much easier, it was very efficient and quick.  They should keep doing it for the years to come,” says junior Lexi Kirkey.

“In order to perform well on the test, students should relax, get a good nights sleep, and be confident that you know more than you think you do,” advised AP English teacher Mrs. Carla Harward.
