Former student returns to Nest as teacher

A 2010 graduate has returned to the Nest! Megan Fries is back after attending Towson University for four years where she studied to become a special educator.

Fries’ schedule includes working with three different general educators, Mrs. Shelly Sparks, Ms. Emily Winfield, and Mrs. Bea Pong. The classes include geometry and algebra II.   Her role is to assist students in mastering the content presented in the math classes.

Though there are many things she loves about working at NH, one of the things she likes best is that she “gets to work with kids.”

Special educators are responsible for maintaining individual education plans for students on their caseload and according to Fries, this can be nerve racking.  “All the responsibilities as a special educator, it’s a lot of paperwork, and timelines,” said Fries.

Though Fries hasn’t taught anywhere else,  prior to getting hired by HCPS, she did have internships at Towson and again at Edgewood and Emmerton Elementary Schools for a year.

Since she is so busy with her job here,  Fries enjoys relaxing in her free time.   “We got a puppy, so I like playing with my puppy.” She and her husband own an Australian Shepard named Murphy. “He’s a cutie!” Fries eagerly says.
