Many North Harford students are already familiar with Mrs.. Bea Pong after she served as a long term substitute last year. However, this familiar face Pong is back as a full time teacher.

Pong received her education at the University of Delaware and later received her graduate degrees at Western Governors University. Pong said she is very happy to be at North Harford and is looking forward for the school year.

Being a long term substitute and transitioning to a full time teacher comes with many differences. The biggest thing Pong said she  has to overcome is the different expectations. “Since I have my own classroom, I have more responsibilities and more duties I have to fulfill,” explained Pong. She also has to plan more assignments for her classes and will follow her professional development plan.

This isn’t the first school where Pong has taught. Before North Harford, Pong taught at Padua Academy High School for three years. Padua Academy is a private all-girls school in Delaware.

According to Pong,  North Harford and Padua Academy both have many differences. The obvious being since it’s a private school, the students wear their uniforms, unlike at North Harford where students wear whatever they like. “The curriculum is different along with the expectations,” said Pong.

Pong has many goals for this school year being a new teacher at North Harford, but she is mostly focused on keeping positive relationship with all of her students. “I try to help out the struggling learners and make relationships with them,” Pong said.

Pong is finding North Harford to be great and is very happy she’s here now as a permanent teacher. “These students are the reason I get up at 5:30 every morning,” exclaimed Pong.
