Tri-M visits nursing home to share music

Tri-M Honors Society visited Hart Heritage nursing home on December 9 to make music for the local residents. Students who participated performed Christmas and other holiday music in ensembles, duets and solos. Ensembles included a string ensemble, wind trio and choir ensembles.

The wind trio included Jenna Smith and Marissa Ramsland playing flute and Nichole Livingston playing clarinet. The trio played O’Holy Night, Deck the Halls and We Wish you a Merry Christmas.

“Playing with the woodwind trio was fun, but I think it was more fun to sing the Christmas carols with everybody because everybody could get really excited and got involved instead of us [wind trio] just standing there, playing,” explained Livingston. Out of all of the ensembles, the strings were Livingston’s favorite because they had the largest ensemble so they had a full sound and it sounded pretty.

The string ensemble included seven musicians: Elliot Preston, Michelle Thompson, Chris Weir and Grace Patsche playing violin, Elise Jacobson playing viola, Duncan Clark playing cello and David Boegner playing bass. The ensemble played Angels we have heard on High, Good Christian Men Rejoice, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Joy to the World and Oh Come all Ye Faithful. Clark had a lot of fun visiting the nursing home. “It was good to get out of class to do something for someone else and see all the old people smile,” said Clark.

Allison Hall and Lauren O’Sullivan both sang a duet of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer while at Hart Heritage. Hall really enjoyed herself performing at the home because it showed different people in different settings and how much the residents enjoy visitors coming there and singing for them.

“My favorite part was seeing the people there and how they enjoyed us coming and how they sang along with us and how much they love people coming to see them,” explained Hall. Along with Hall, Scarlet Dare sang The Sound of Music and Kirsten Dibastiani contributed as well.

The audience of the nursing home enjoyed hearing all the musicians share Christmas music and Christmas spirit! All the musicians and elder were given Christmas lyrics and sang together as a finale.
