After eight years, The Aberdeen IronBirds, have changed their emblem. The new design is a cartoon version of the old look they had from 2013 and a more accurate remodel of the original ensignia.

“We are beyond excited to finally reveal our new logos, colors, jerseys, the 20th season of Ironbirds baseball will be the biggest season,” said General Manager Jack Graham.

Kevin Jimenez created the logo that features a jet plane that smiles, with a color theme of orange and blue.

This is the third change of the design; the original was from 2002 to 2012, the second was from 2013 to 2021, and now the newest one was revealed for the 2022 season.

The “Iron” in the team name is a reference to Cal Ripken, Jr. The emblem of the jet plane is in relation to Aberdeen proving grounds. The “birds” in the name is in relation to the parent team the Baltimore Orioles according to New Sports Logo.

Also according to New Sports logo, “The logo unveiled today replaces the more serious logo used from 2013 until today.”

“I like the old one by far.” said  junior Julia Blondell. She added “ It brings back childhood memories for me. The new one appears to be overly cartoonish and unsuitable for a small league.”

Junior Cole Younger agrees with Blondell he said, “The new one looks too childish and the old one looks more like a baseball team’s logo.”

Younger added that the older design is the one he grew up with so it was weird to see it change after so long. “I like the old one better but honestly the new one is not bad.”

Blondell said,  “In comparison  to the original IronBird, the old one appears to be a lot more intimidating, which I enjoyed.”

Junior Elijah Brown said, “I like the older one better because the old one is nostalgic for me but the new one is more fit for young kids.”

Most students said they liked the old look better than the new one that was revealed. The new emblem is meant to look like the original design, the smiling animated jet plane that was used from 2002-2012.      The IronBirds have

games this year in April, May, June, July, August, and half of September. They have 66 home games this season and 64 away games. Throughout the season they play 11 different teams.

IronBirds tickets usually cost between $15 to 45 according to ticketmaster. The prices range depending on where the seats are in the stadium. Fans are able to buy them in advance for upcoming games or fans are able to buy them on game day.
