Fear is running people’s lives;

Controlling every move every day

People are constantly fearing everything in life. Getting hurt, getting sick, even dying. But is this stopping them from living their life?

    Crime rates are going up, another shooting occurred, new sickness is going around; these are just some of the types of articles and news coverage that are shown to people everyday. “About 90% of all media news is negative, which can have a profound impact on the public’s perception of the world around them,” reports Progressivewealthmanagement.com. Everyday people are learning about more and more things they should worry about. “To drive clickbait, news coverage and social media postings also tend to highlight the more negative or dramatic news,” wrote the American Psychological Association.

     It  stops kids, teenagers, and adults all the time, but it’s not always a bad thing. Sometimes it prevents people from doing something dumb or unreasonable that could cause them to get hurt. But constantly worrying about something that’s uncontrollable becomes too overpowering. That’s when this emotion starts controlling lives. It causes people to be incapable of  living their lives well.

     A major worry that people have is sickness. “The term doom scrolling emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic to capture the negative impact of viewing too much pandemic-related media,” said American Psychological Association. This often negatively impacts people’s mental health. Even when covid was dying down many people would isolate themselves from the rest of the world because they were still scared of getting sick. But if we stay away from everything just to live longer then we’re still not really living. Is living just having a heartbeat? Or is living actually experiencing life around us. Experiencing different people, seeing nature, learning new things, growing as a person and so much more. It’s not all about just being alive.

     Another thing that is constantly on people’s mind, stressing them out and taking their joy away is the worry of other people around them. Many people now are scared of daily things like going out in public by themselves, going for a walk or running by themselves. “40% are afraid to walk home at night near home,” wrote News.Gallup.com.These daily activities are stopped by fear. Of course there is a chance that something bad could happen. But there is also a big chance that nothing will happen. Staying safe out in public is an important thing to know and people should always try to be safe but when it stops people from doing daily activities. Or if it causes them daily anxiety about doing these tasks then it becomes an issue.

     There will be risks in most things in life. So people shouldn’t just avoid doing every little thing that may be scary or have a risk. Then they are missing out on opportunities that might actually enjoy or benefit from.
