Ingredient – Phosphoric Acid is in Soda, Chicken and Cheese

Effects on the food – Phosphoric acid gives soda its acidity, or ‘sharper flavor’.

Long term effects – The acid Interacts with stomach acid, slowing digestion, and blocking nutrient absorption. It also can lead to  osteoporosis,or cavities .

Other things the ingredient is in or used for – Phosphoric acid is also used to remove rust, used in fuel cells, to remove hard water stains, and is in several cosmetic products.

Alternative food – There is no alternative to duplicate phosphoric acids effect in soda, but it is recommended to either consume more calcium or cut back to only to 2 cans of soda a day to help prevent long term side effects.

Things it does to the body- Phosphoric acid interferes with the body’s ability to absorb calcium and can lead to and bone softening.

What part of the body does it effect- Phosphoric acid effects the body’s digestive system and has a negative impact on bones.

–          A can of Coca-Cola contains 45 mg of Phosphoric acid.

–          Phosphoric acid is a key bone mineral, however if there is too much of this acid in the body compared to calcium it can result in bone loss. It also negatively affects the digestive system.
