Saving King Kandy

Sweetest game around

Along the rainbow colored trail and through the Peppermint Stick Forest, Candy Land is one game for which kids have been hungry.
According to the Toy Hall of Fame, Candy Land was invented by Eleanor Abbott during the 1940s in the United States. The disease polio, an illness that affects the nerves that can result in full or partial paralysis, was spreading through America. Abbott herself was a victim of the disease, and she invented the game for recuperating children. The kids she introduced the game to told her that she should have it manufactured. Abbott sent the game to the company Milton Bradley(now Hasbro), and they began producing it in 1949. The game has continued to be produced for 50 years now.
The game teaches children to follow rules, be patient while other kids are taking their turns, how to recognize colors and how to socialize.
In the game there are several different characters that represent different candies. They include Gramma Nut, Jolly, Gloppy, Plumpy the Plumpa Troll, Queen Frostine, Princess Lolly and Cupcakes; among others, according to Ask. These characters are all searching for the lost king, King Kandy. The Villain of the game is Lord Licorice, and he tries to prevent the players from reaching King Kandy. The players themselves are differently colored gingerbread men. Each player draws a card with a color on it, and they move to the next space on the board of that color.
Today, Candy Land can be played on CD-ROM, as a hand-held electronic game, in special character editions or in a Step-a-Tune edition.
