Mr. Brown

Mr. Ronald Brown has been teaching for a total of 29 years, with three years in Ohio, 12 in New York, and 14 in Maryland. He currently teaches Algebra I and II. What some may not know about Brown is that he is a licensed EMT.

In 1989, Brown joined the fire department in New York, following the birth of his first son. “I wanted to know what to do if he [my son] injured himself,” said Brown. Following his career with the department, Brown became an EMT in 1990.

His skills have come in handy quite a few times, including an incident where his youngest son broke his leg riding a scooter. “We did not know it was broken at the time, but fortunately I did know how to lift him so it did not do further damage,” said Brown.

However, in Harford County, most areas have paid EMT crews working throughout the day. According to Brown, the most serious cases will involve the paramedics, unlike in New York in the 1990s, where most people worked as volunteers.

Today, Brown strongly advocates community service. “If you are volunteering, I would think that it would be in something that interests you or somewhere you see a need,” said Brown. He believes that service to the community is extremely important and that everyone should do something, whether it is helping the fire department, reading organizations, or civic organizations.
