“Manie Musicale de Mars” in French classes mirrors basketball March Madness

Every year for the last four, Madame Arist has included “Manie Musicale de Mars” in her French classes. It is essentially the same concept as March Madness in the NCAA, but with French musicians and their songs.

All levels of classes 1-4 are given a bracket and attempt to predict the outcome of each pain gof songs as well as the final winner, with prizes given to who  is closest in their guessing. French 4 classes design the bracket every year with the final help of Madame.

Senior French 4 student Maddie Kramer says over the four years she has “added all her favorite songs to a big playlist that she listens to,” and that she “looks forward to it every year.”

Madame Arist says that she started Manie Musicale because she is “part of online professional organizations and some other teachers posted it and I jumped right on board.”

She said she continues doing it because she thinks it’s really great for students to be exposed to artists that are not just American and don’t just sing in English to inspire them to listen to new things.” She added it promotes learning when “students learn the lyrics and repeat and learn new words.”
