He said, self care

Jake Gay, Reporter

10 a.m.:  The weekend gives me a lot of time to relax and catch up, especially this year.  Saturday is a good day for sleeping. So, I sleep-in to about 10 because I am usually still awake well after midnight on Saturday morning.

10:30 a.m. :  I spend a long time in bed after waking up on these types of days.  Although, around 10:30 the Tik Tok guy usually gives me the notification that I have been on the app for too long, and should do something else with my life.

11:30 a.m.Normally I eat lunch early, although on “Reset days” (as I call them) I eat around noon. This means that I have a little more time in the morning to catch up on school, because I probably “forgot” to do some school work on Flex-Friday

1:00 p.m.:  After eating lunch,  I work out. I exercise almost regularly, so on self- care days I take it easy and will just walk my dog, or I will do a core-workout. After which I take a  long shower, this is actually normal for me and a way I relax even on weekdays.

3:00 p.m.:  At this point in the day I will spend a little bit of time playing video games or reading. I don’t do either as much as I used to. So it is refreshing to be able to take some time away and completely tune out.

3:30 p.m. Generally speaking, I listen to music 24/7. On self-care days this is no different, and in the early afternoon I play music and do laundry or clean. I still do these things on my relaxation days, I find it reasonable to still do something productive, and it is just one less thing I will have to do during the week.

5:00 p.m.: After wallowing in self pity, (I told you I spend too much time on Tik Tok) my family goes out to eat. We aren’t too fancy so where we eat doesn’t matter too much, it is just a nice family thing to do. Nowadays, Saturday dinners are non-negotiable, since soon I will be in college and not be able to do things like this.

8:00 p.m.: Somehow we go out to eat around 5 and don’t come back till 8. So, during this time I watch television. I seldom watch TV during the weekday, so sitting down and just doing nothing but watch TV is actually weird for me.

10:00 p.m.Everyone in my family goes to bed early, so usually by this time I am the only one awake unless someone is watching a movie (Forrest Gump is a favorite in my house). No matter what though I will be on social-media for a little while. However, I will not allow myself to think, worry or do any school work.

11:00 p.m.: I do journal (shhh) but not like “Dear Diary” my journaling is usually just reminders for the week ahead, plans for the future and a little reflection. I never write down what happened each day, I usually write down how I felt and what I thought. This takes place on my phone usually in the “Notes” app. After which,  I will watch Netflix or HBO for a little while and go to bed much more relaxed than when I woke up.
