Big things are happening for the yearbook staff, including the sneak peak of one of their 2014-15 layouts that was shared on Twitter in early January.

“The staff was really excited to show a bit of the layout for the entire school,” states yearbook advisor and English teacher Mrs. Carla Harward.

The layout that the staff released was from their student life section, according to junior staff member April Jones.

“Since the layout was of the homecoming game and pep rally, the staff thought that this would excite students and make them want to buy the book [yearbook] this year,” shared Harward.

As a staff, these young women want NHHS to be talking about this yearbook for years to come.  “We’ve put a lot of hard work into making this year’s book one that everyone can be proud of,” said junior Rebecca Dempsey.

The staff has been working in and outside of school to meet deadlines. This includes planning when to get pictures for the book, setting up dates and times for photographers, and coordinating lots of other details, according to junior Kaylee Holliger.

“Finding my inner creativity and getting deadlines in on time and interviewing people in classes with angry teachers is the most challenging part about yearbook,” said Holliger.

The current staff has noticed a lot of improvement since the start of the year. Jones said her largest improvement has been evident in her captions and articles.    Junior Carly Ensor explained that she’s mainly improved at her technological skills, since they’re working on computers all period.

As the advisor of the class, Harward has complimented on how proud she is that the staff is very hardworking and creative.

Recently, the staff completed their first deadline in December and they are preparing to submit pages for their second deadline, according to  Harward.

Beyond deadlines, the staff is also working on the senior section,  making sure that all the seniors have their portraits in. The senior section is a work in progress that the staff are going to begin working on.

“For now, we plan on doing another sneak peak in March,” said Harward. “We want to keep the buzz alive for this yearbook.”
