Spaghetti Dinner: go nuts for noodles

The junior class held the annual Spaghetti Dinner on Wednesday, March 18 in order  to raise money for next year’s prom.

The fee for the dinner was  $6 unless attendees were in possession of a coupon.  The event was open to everyone, according to advisor Christine Fellenbaum. Beginning at 4pm, the meal attracted current and former teachers, athletic teams, and community members, among others.

All spaghetti and salad was donated by NHHS students and parents. Parents did not only donate the spaghetti and meat-less sauce, but also the chinet plates, grated parmesan cheese, and 2-liter bottles of soda. Other items on the menu included salad and Italian bread, which “are a must” according to Fellenbaum. There were also some desserts that were going on sale at the dinner, that were also donated by the parents of the junior class.

One parent who helped out with the spaghetti dinner was Sheena Morris, a parent and lunch lady here at NHHS.

“She’s always willing to help out with these type of things and I’m excited she has stepped in for the dinner,” stated Fellenbaum. “We’ve had this event for a very long time now.  Last year it didn’t happen, but this year we were hoping for a big turnout.”

The turnout was a major success, many juniors turned out to enjoy the meals served to them.  Along with the parents attending the event, junior class officers were expected to attend and work the event as well.

Junior class president Star Patkus was also excited for the turnout and she thinks it  really helped raise money for prom. She additionally planned a silent auction at the dinner to help with further fundraising.

This dinner is designed annually  to help offset  the costs of prom, including the cost of the DJ, meal and venue.  This is important because the junior class hasn’t made that much money for prom yet, according to Fellenbaum.

Fellenbaum shared that for the lack of money made, the class next year will be paying about $60 for prom tickets next year.

“If more opportunities for activities to raise money come up, we will definitely be after them to make ticket prices go down for next year,” said Fellenbaum.
