Virtual Finals; Virtually the same

When it hits May the finals season begins. Students partake in finals every year and the tests, normally, are 1/18 of your grade. Two big differences this year are: the finals are virtual and they are now 1/9 of your grade. Meaning, that if you receive two A’s and two B’s you need at least a C to get a final grade of A.

One student wasn’t too happy about this. Senior Haley Ries, says “For one, we have gone through the worst senior year ever and now we have to worry about our finals?” Ries explains that she wishes the school decided to make them count for less or honestly not have them at all. She was done with the stress after this changing year. Ries exclaims, “We’ve gone through a lot but they really didn’t change a thing when it came to finals season.”

Ries was not the only student upset about it all. Junior Morgan Buckland, also explains that “On top of all of my classes being virtual, taking finals virtually creates more stress and really makes it a sad end to the year.” Buckland, like Ries, wishes the school made finals easier or counted for less of the grade. A few other students agreed. Junior Nick Mullins stated the same problems as Ries and Buckland.

There are some students though who think it is a normal part of the year and that we are expected to take them. Junior  Grant Maxa, is one of the few. He states, “We have always had to take finals. I guess in a way I’m just getting them done because I know I have to.” Maxa does explain that this year was a very unfortunate and sad year, but he was prepared to take finals as they come every year in high school. Sophomore Abigail Buckland, has the same thoughts as Maxa. She says, “As much as I despise school, finals won’t affect your grade too harshly and it’s something we are all used to.” Buckland believes no one should really ‘complain’ because they happen every year. She explains, “They stink, but they’ll be done soon and we can all enjoy a semi-normal summer!”

All tests and finals seem to be different for students this year, and most seem to wish they gave some leniency with the finals. But every single student said they will try their hardest and be happy with whatever outcome. In Ries’ words, ” It’s my last year in high school and I will not be letting some final score ruin my graduation.”
