Newbold works toward Eagle Scout honor

HANNAH KRIZEK, Op/Ed

Sophomore Rustin Newbold has been working towards gaining his Eagle Scout. He started boy scouts at a young age saying, “I started as a Cub Scout back in kindergarten. I continued Cub Scouts then once I got to middle school I became a Boy Scout,” he discusses.

He also adds, “I think I’m one of the youngest scouts in my troop since I am only 15.”

Talking about how life skills are more needed to become an Eagle Scout, yet the more fun skills are not as much, he discusses that, “you can do a combination of both to get the Eagle.

Newbold has been working on, and recently finished his Eagle Scout Project for Boys scouts. His project is located at the Norrisville Parks and Rec.

“There is the parking lot, and then there is a pavilion, and then there is a little peninsula area, it’s in the middle of that peninsula,” he says while explaining exactly where his project is. He then explains exactly what his project is saying, “My project is a kiosk [of the Norrisville Complex], but I also added an additional roof onto it so that it would last longer, and then a backboard which has everyone who has helped sponsor me. The back also includes his name and troop number.

He says, “the reason why I did a kiosk to even begin with is because since I go there, a lot of people go up there and they don’t know where anything is, or even what’s going on, so I thought having it right their front and center would be really good.”

“In order to get the money and supplies for my project I had to do fundraising,” he says. As he started his fundraising he sent out a post to Facebook to just let everyone know that any help he could get would be greatly useful.

Newbold lists a few of his sponsors that have helped him along the way including, “AB Martin and Lumber, GL Designs who had helped with the construction aspect, and Jarrettsville Creamery along with many others.

He is very thankful for the community as he says, “the community support I had on it was more than enough to cover my project and I’m very grateful for all that.”
