The 64th annual Grammys took place on April 3 at 8pm and were hosted by Trevor Noah at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The 2020 show had the smallest audience in over a decade, according to statista.com

These awards recognize the best music released from September 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021. Some of the artists that attended the Grammys were Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipia, Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X,  and many more.

“Leave the Door Open ” by Silk Sonic won record of the year, “We Are” by Jon Batiste won album of the year, and Olivia Rodrigo won best new artist, along with many other artists winning other awards.

Many people were shocked by Silk Sonic winning record of the year. North Harford Middle School Student Lila Barnaba said, “I really wanted Olivia to win. I thought she deserved it, I never would have guessed that silk Sonic would have won. I am glad that she won three other awards. She definitely deserves those, she had an amazing year.”

Barnaba added, “I wanted her [Olivia]  to win but I felt like since she didn’t there were other artists that would have deserved it more. I read that Silk Sonic was even shocked that they won that award.”

Out of all of the artists Jon Batiste won five Grammys, he won the most awards this year. Many artists also won their first Grammys this year including Olivia Rodrigo.

Sophomore Caitlyn Travagline said, “I enjoy watching the Grammys for the red carpet. I love looking at all of the different dresses and suits that they wear. Even though sometimes the dresses don’t look good.”

Junior Madison Gann said, “I really only enjoy the performances at the Grammys. That is really the only reason I watch them. The only time I pay attention to the awards is if I really like one of the artists.”

She added, “This year I did watch a little more of the Grammys because there were a lot of artists that I enjoyed listening to there.”

Travagline said, “I usually watch the Grammys every year, this year I wasn’t as excited as normal to watch them, I don’t really know why. I did still enjoy them though.”

Another notable event from the evening, Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine gave a speech about the war occurring between Russia and Ukraine. He urged people to use their platforms to help support in their time of need.
