The tech ed department at NHHS has had  a revolving door of teachers over the last few years, and this year is no different.  At the end of the 2014-15 school year, Mr. Josh Korbeck left NH to return to his home state of Pennsylvania.  In his place, Mr.  Jonathan Thomas, a California University of Pennsylvania graduate, was hired during the summer of 2015 to take the position of NH’s newest technology education teacher.

As a teacher new to NH, Thomas said he really likes all the agriculture we have here and all the animals and everything.  Thomas said he has a bit of an agricultural background that includes owning his own farm, on which he and his wife previously raised beef cattle  but  where they now farm hay.

According to Thomas, he said that things have been going well so far. “I’m getting used to my shop and everything, but otherwise I do like it,” said Thomas.

Though the year is just at the beginning, Thomas is already excited about lots of things. He said he was especially excited “to see all the equipment we have down in the barn and all the new projects I can do with all my different classes.”

One thing that Thomas also is excited about is planning a January field trip for his ag mechanics class to attend the Keystone Agricultural Equipment  event, which he describes as being “the largest ag even in the eastern area.”

As far as his first impression of the students and staff, Thomas describes them as being ‘ hardworking.’

Thomas’ schedule includes five sections of the required tenth grade course,  foundations of tech and one ag mechanics class.    He said his favorite class is the ag mechanics because  “he has  that common background and he enjoys going out to the barn equipment.

Prior to being hired at NH, Thomas said he was aware that the Nest had Tractor days, and that the campus featured several barns and animals.    Thomas has previously taught in Pennsylvania and in Virginia.
