Boys soccer kicks into gear

After a more than successful season for the Hawks Boys varsity soccer team last year, this squad has high expectations for his year.

Under the instruction of coaches Matt Johnstone and Julio Fernandez, and  seniors captains Josh Young, Jordan Smith, and Mike Boyko, the boys feel that they can continue to improve in their soccer skills and have a successful season.

“The coaches are really pushing conditioning this year trying to get us physically fit,” said Young.

Key returning players for the Hawks include Young, Smith, and Boyko, and juniors Cameron Brosh, Michael Green, and goalie, Andrew Klapka.

“Our strengths are definitely our goalie and defense.  They will take us really far this year,” stated Smith.

The team’s weaknesses, identified by the captains, are finishing and communication.

After finishing last year as regional champions with record of 15-1-2, the main goal for the  team this year is to accomplish that again, and more.

“We really want to beat Patterson Mill this year because we have never beaten them before,” stated Young.

Other games to look out for are games against Bel Air, C.Milton Wright, and Fallston.

Recently the Hawks had a big win over the John Carroll Patriots, with a score of 2-1 in a nail-biting overtime finale.
