Committing to future; Students grow into college athletes

It’s that time of year again, signing day, where senior athletes make the decision of where they are going to continue their athletic careers. National Signing Day is traditionally the first day that a high school senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent for a collegiate sport with a school that is a member of the United States National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Many of our fellow students at North Harford including seniors Dylan Jablon, Caitlyn Allen, and Rachel Keeney,  have made that commitment.

Students took time and effort for the opportunity to play for their dream schools. Jablon made the decision to continue his soccer career at York College. He is playing center defense mid or outside wing/back for the team. For his decision he took into consideration three different schools including Randolph Macon, Salisbury, and his top choice, York. Just like most college athletes Jablon has been playing soccer since he was a kid “I’ve been playing since I was 4.” He is most excited to “be on a new team and meeting new people.”

As for Allen, she is continuing her gymnastics career at Towson University. She stated that she has always wanted to continue her career into college, she even started the college search in 8th grade. After her making this decision, she said her excitement comes from the idea of being “able to compete with people from all different states and regions and be on a team with the same skill level and energy as me and have a ton of people watch me do what I love.”

While she is excited for the new team, she said she is nervous about “not making line ups and be as good as everyone else because you have to earn a spot to compete.” The reason Allen chose this college was because “the team is like a family and I want to be a part of something like this. Also, this campus and just the whole feel of being a Tiger.”

In addition to these two students, Keeney also made a commitment to Millersville University for lacrosse. With this decision she is most excited to push herself in training and strive to be a key player. She is excited to focus on her skills and learn from other girls on the team.

For Keeney she has known since 6th grade she wanted to continue her career in college. “I grew up playing three sports my entire life and have always loved every aspect of it. But I specifically have always wanted to play lacrosse in college.”  Like Allen and Jablon, Keeney said she chose Millersville because it felt like home. She loves the team and the campus.
