Boys volleyball bumps into 2013 season

With the start of the new 2013 fall season, boys volleyball is ready to bump, set, and spike into a winning season.

Under the wing of head coach Mr. Kris Kapinos, the boys are looking to improve from their 8-8 record last season and to win the county championship. Captains including juniors Nick Benway and Jake Knox, alongside senior Grant Trimble look to guide the team into a winning season.

Key returning players include seniors Grant Trimble and juniors Knox and Brett Hurley. New upcoming players that will lead the hawks include juniors Benway and Brenden Morris.

The boys came ready to play this season by working hard on conditioning and skills, which include maintaining their strong defense and improving offense.

“We prepared for this season with lots of conditioning…for our bodies,” said Benway.

They’re starting off the season with a 2-0 record, with two wins over the Patterson Mill Huskies and Bel Air Bobcats, the reigning county and UCBAC champions.

Their strengths heading into the season include their defense, and doing whatever they can to keep the ball in play.

“They have a certain attitude about not letting the ball hit the floor, and that’s what’s going to help us win games,” said Kapinos.

“As a team we are better at defense,” Benway and Knox agreed.

With the graduation of four vital seniors last year, the Hawks are looking to improve their offensive game after losing the face of their scoring drives.

“We really have to focus on serving and hitting. Those seniors were our offense,” said Trimble.

Upcoming games this season to watch out for will be their matches against powerhouses such as the C. Milton Wright Mustangs and Fallston Cougars.
