JV soccer, football prepare for fall season;

Hawks welcome new coaches to the Nest

North Harford is home to many accomplished individuals on the athletic fields, but the coaches are the ones who give the support and help foster these talents within the athletes. Four remarkable coaches were just added to the Hawks roster in the fall sports season.

Mr. Daniel Griffin is the new JV football assistant coach and Ms. Meaghan MacArthur was named head JV soccer coach along with assistants Ms. Molly Driver and Ms. Lauren Morris.

MacArthur’s passion began at just four years old as a youth in the local rec programs. This dedication lead her to playing soccer all through high school and even club lacrosse at Towson University. Currently, MacArthur is a second year teacher at North Harford Middle and was also an assistant coach for varsity girl’s lacrosse last year.

“Coaching has always been something that I wanted to do since I started teaching. I always loved being involved in sports,” said MacArthur.

MacArthur was enthusiastic to start coaching soccer because she already knew many of her players from teaching them in middle school last year.

“It has been rewarding seeing the girls utilize the things we taught them in practice during games,” said MacArthur. “I know that no matter what our record is at the end of the season, I will be really proud of each of them and the improvement they have made.”

In addition, Driver is a first year teacher at North Harford Middle and attended the University of West Chester where she played club soccer. Driver even played three years of varsity soccer at North Harford and one year of JV as a freshman captain.

“Our team supports each other on and off the field,” said Driver. “The girls on JV are sweethearts and all have a great humor and when it comes down to being serious and focusing on the game, they get it done.”

According to Driver, she has already seen speed, skill, and endurance improvements within her team since the beginning of tryouts.

“I hope that each one of our athletes grow as soccer players this season and that they learn from us and from their teammates,” said Driver.

Driver even used to play high school and club soccer with  assistant coach Morris. Morris has been playing soccer since she was five years old and is a graduate of Shenandoah University where she played soccer and was a captain there for all four years.

“I have always wanted to coach. I have a passion for sports and I want to give back,” said Morris. “I always said after college if I move back home, I would love to coach back at the same high school I went to.”

Morris is delighted to be home coaching where her journey began as an athlete and be able to share her knowledge of the game with youth.

“The most rewarding experience is when one of the girls first can’t get down a move or a skill.  When she keeps on practicing and see her practicing, you know she is going to get it,” said Morris.  “The best part is when she finally nails it down, you know how accomplished she feels and that trickles down to you.”

Another NH graduate, Griffin, who currently teaches at Riverside Elementary, played football in high school and at college at Salisbury University. He is a very accomplished football player who was named all-county and player of the year in 2007 at NH. At Salisbury, he was all conference, player of the year in 2011, and preseason All-American 2012.

“Seeing how the players bond together reminds me of when I was playing in high school and brings back great memories,” said Griffin.

Griffin has been playing football since he was six years old so he considers it to be second nature to him.

“Football is always unique because it is the largest team and has such a diverse group of guys working together as one unit,” said Griffin.

MacArthur, Driver, Morris, and Griffin are proud to be a part of the North Harford coaching staff and have already created a bond with their teammates. They are enthusiastic for the many years coaching at NH to come and cannot wait to see the success of their team during the fall season.
