Sky’s the limit

Cross country positive for upcoming season

“I like to not have predictions so the goals are pretty high, the sky is the limit,” stated head coach

Eric Benjamin in regard to this year’s cross country team.

The squad has a lot to live up to considering last year, the girls were UCBAC champs for junior varsity and varsity and the boys were runner ups.

“We want to continue with our winning ways,” stated head coach Laura O’Leary.

The team captains for the boys include juniors Nick Fransham, Patrick O’Leary, Luke Cordell and senior Calen Dowley. For the girls, the team captains are seniors Ellen Shephard, Paige Rickey, Kristen Zdon and junior Reagan Davis .crosscountry2

“I’m really excited for this year. I think our team bond is great, we’re really great friends, we work hard together and push ourselves because we like to see improvement when we run our best,” stated Zdon.

As of right now, there are a total of 56 runners on the team. All of the boys returned to the team, while two significant female team members did not.

“I think this year we can do really well as a team because we have a lot of returning juniors and seniors,”  explained Rickey.

The first competition was September 10, against Bel Air. Despite the extreme heat, North Harford came in first for both the girls and boys cross country teams.

“We have a good team,” stated Cordell “A lot of younger kids are stepping up, and we have a lot of potential to do good things this season.”

This upcoming season, the cross country team’s biggest competition includes the teams from C. Milton Wright and Bohemia Manor.

The next competition will be against Edgewood on October 1 at 3:30pm.
