Maryland’s new football uniforms catch eyes

Just two days before the Terrapins took on West Virginia at M&T Bank Stadium on September 21, Under Armour decided to unveil their latest creation; new football uniforms.
Starting at the top of the red uniform, the helmets have the Maryland flag sprawled across the top with “MARYLAND” written across the back. Now, these helmets are definitely out of the ordinary. Each helmet was hand painted and no two of them are exactly alike. Under Armour referred to them as “protective snowflakes” since no snowflake is ever exactly the same, just like their new helmets.
Moving on down, much like North Harford’s varsity football jerseys having camo to show pride, the Maryland jerseys sport the maryland flag. The flag appears on the sleeves.
On the pants, just below the knee, there are black stripes that have the word “MARYLAND” written on them. There is also a little Maryland flag on the left hip and the UA sign on the right hip.
A usually unnoticed part of the uniform is now definitely standing out on these guys: the gloves. Across the palms of these new gloves is the state of maryland with the flag inside the outline. Also, above that reads the word “MARYLAND” just as it is on every other article of these uniforms.
The last part of the red uniform is the cleats and socks. The socks are red with a ring around the top that is nothing other than the Maryland flag. The cleats are red with a yellow UA sign and laces that are printed with the flag.
On the other hand, they also created white uniforms. The helmet is half yellow and black then red and white. The helmet matches with the jerseys that have the two parts of the flag split up on both shoulder. The color patterns match depending on the side.
The bottoms on this uniform are also similar to the bottoms of North Harford’s football pants for home games. Only, instead of camo, the side of the pants have a strip with the Maryland flag printed down it.
The gloves with this uniform set are white with red in between the fingers and yellow around the wrist area. The cleats for these uniforms are, of course, the Maryland flag print.
The feedback for these uniforms is definitely varied. Some people, such as Lebron James, thought these uniforms might show up on an episode of “What Not To Wear”. But most people just shrugged their shoulders and continued on with their Thursday. Kevin Plank, the founder and CEO of Under Armour and former Maryland football player, was not surprised at all about the people that didn’t care. He, like most people, know that Maryland is a basketball school and these uniforms don’t excite the majority of students or fans.
