Field house yet to be approved; Coaches, athletes wait for new addition to be built

North Harford High School has a fieldhouse for the turf in the works. Now both home and opposing teams will be able to get together without going all the way back to the school.
This plan to build a field house was brought up by the EndZone Club and Coach Brinkman. The hope was to have somewhere the teams could regroup. Also, in this field house, there will be an official’s room and trainer’s room.
Recently, the Endzone club was awarded a grant. This grant money will be used towards putting a fieldhouse on campus. County Executive David Craig will take care of the cost of this project. The cost of this project is still being negotiated considering the Endzone Club is still unsure if they have approval for this. The cost of it may also be more than the grant which would imply that the Endzone Club would have to raise more money.
This project will hopefully start by late May although that estimate is not set in stone. If the project begins on time, it would most likely be finished in Mid-August. But this process cannot be determined yet until NHHS is ensured this project is a go.
In order for this project to start, the idea must be run by the Harford County Board of Education. If they approve of it, then North Harford will be on its way to gaining a new addition to aid the athletes during their seasons. NHHS must have all the planning done before bringing the idea to the county. Once the idea is proposed, the county must check to make sure everything is in shape and nothing will be in the way.
“I think it would be a great addition… it keeps the kids from having to come back into the school,” says Mrs. Iddings.
This field house will have many benefits to North Harford. For example, teams will no longer have to come back into the school. This will allow the school to be locked up and can protect from theft better. Also, since the teams won’t be coming back into the school during the games, less mess will be created from cleats. Especially if it’s muddy or wet outside.
The placement of the building is most likely going to be on the left side of the concession stand when facing it. Again, this is also not set in stone because the idea is still being prepared to go to the board.
The school has plans for this proposal to be approved. There is no evident reason why this building will be a problem considering we have the room for it and the money will not be an issue.
Some field houses in Maryland include the Cole Field House which was at the University of Maryland from 1955 to 2002. Then it was replaced by what is now there; the Comcast Center.
