Hawks furthering athletic futures; College commits taking place throughout North Harford

A handful of athletes at NHHS have made some decisions regarding their post-high school athletic careers.  Seniors Ava Lewis, Tony Dellarose, and Noah Altenburg, along with junior Piper Wright have all committed to schools in recent weeks.

Lewis is committed to play Division II soccer at Southern Wesleyan University.  Wright, Dellarose, and Altenburg are all verbally committed to play Division III lacrosse.  Wright recently committed to Hood College, Dellarose will be playing at Cabrini College, and Altenburg is committed to Stevenson University.

While their sport is a part of the decision, these athletes all said there were other factors they considered when making their final decisions.  Wright said she “liked how close It was, so my parents could come watch or I could go home If I needed to.” Altenburg states that he picked the college because, “they had a good accounting program and that is what I wanted my major to be.”

Wright has been playing lacrosse for 10 to 12 years, and she added that even from a young age she “always wanted to play in college because lacrosse is something I have always enjoyed.”

Lewis has played soccer for 14 years. She says,  “I have always wanted to play soccer in college.” As far as her future team, she said “the coach and team are welcoming. I had an official visit with him and I have talked to a lot of my teammates.”

Dellarose is also a life-long lacrosse player, and he said  “I love the game and want to play as long as I can.”  He added that “playing at such a high level in college has always been a goal.”  A few things made Cabrini stand out for Dellarose.   He says, “I really liked the coach as well as the size of the school. It’s really close to Philly so there is a lot to do.”

Altenburg discusses that he has been playing lacrosse for 10 years. He also says, “I decided on a D3 school because there are no commitments, if I want to focus more on school, I can.”

As these athletes move on to college sports, they each said they have a new set of goals they will try to achieve.  Wright says, “one of my biggest hopes for playing in a college sport is going to the NCAA tournament or maybe even the championship.” Dellarose has similar hopes saying, “I want to win a national championship.”

Lewis also has many hopes to further her athletic career. She is excited to be able to play at the next level. Altenburg has similar feelings. “I hope to actually play on the team and learn a lot about leadership at that higher level.”
